- An important difference between the phonological systems of Russian and English is the fact that while vowel length is phonemic in English, that is not the case in Russian. This is highly manifested in Runglish, where voewel length is shortened:
- Platalisation is another widely spread phenomenon in Runglish. It affects mainly the front high spread vowel /i/.
- /æ/ sound is often substitued for/ɛ/, which is less open.
- The same is applied on the vowel /e/
- /ʌ/ is pronounced with the mouth a bit more open.
- In russian there is no schwa sound. This sound, hence, is often substitued for /a/ and /ɛ/
- From a suprasugmental point of view, Runglish has
- Specific intonation
